According to the recent Associated Press article entitled “Sex offenders challenge new federal passports law,” President Obama just signed a somewhat controversial federal sex offender law, the International Megan’s Law bill, and a civil rights group has filed suit challenging the requirement for sex offenders to be identified on their passports.
The lawsuit will be filed in the U.S. District Court in San Francisco on behalf of four registered citizens and alleges that International Megan’s Law violates several provisions in the U.S. Constitution including the 1st, 5th and 14th Amendment, as well as the equal protection and ex facto clauses.
