Federal criminal defense and white collar crime lawyer, NiaLena Caravasos, was recently interviewed by Super Lawyers, for their article entitled “LEGAL TIPS FOR SAFE INJECTION FACILITIES IN PHILADELPHIA – Medical professionals and opioid users need to know the dangers.”

With hundreds of thousands of people dying in this country from opioid addiction, President Trump has termed the crisis as a “public health emergency.” A hot topic in the news right now is the issue of safe injection sites and Philadelphia’s quest to be the first in the country to embark upon this path of providing a safe haven for addicts to inject under the supervision of medical professionals in an effort to minimize deaths from overdose and disease.

In order to gain a better understanding of the potential legal issues and possible pitfalls and ramifications for medical professionals working at such sites and also for addicts injecting there, Super Lawyers writer Benjy Schirm spoke with NiaLena Caravasos, a nationally recognized federal criminal defense and white collar crime lawyer based in Philadelphia. NiaLena addressed various legal issues surrounding the need to think outside the box in combating the opioid crisis as well as the manner in which other countries have succeeded in this quest and the possibility of changing our laws and decriminalizing such conduct in an effort to help people stay alive long enough in order to get treatment and get clean.
